"I'm excited to invest in folks who have this question of "how do I grow and make that jump from Product Manager to Product Leader"? It's not an easy jump to make and I think figuring out how we can codify that a little bit more is really intriguing."

"Mentors have played a huge role in my own career development. I get a lot out of coaching and helping people develop. People can get a lot of leverage out of the right advice at the right time."

As product managers and leaders who have been there before, we get it. Product paths are often ill-defined and highly personalized. There’s no one place to get the input and continual learning you need. We’ve bought together key product leaders, coaches, and other community leaders to streamline the process needed to help you accelerate your growth and career. Let’s Workit, together!

Fellowship Curriculum

Week 1: Vision

What excites you? In what ways are you growing or want to grow? Do you have the next step of your career planned yet? Get clear on what matters to you. Sound this out with mentors and peers and learn about new approaches, role types, industries and other things that can sharpen your vision.

Week 2: Problem Discovery

What are your needs? What’s working? What’s not working? Problem Discovery explores yourself as the product, both through an internal view and an external view from your peers, mentors, and past and present co-workers. Get clear and confident about your strengths, values, experience, and interests. Reveal what others see that you might not have noticed.

Week 3: Market Discovery

The “market” could be the team you lead, the industry you love, or the region you live in. What are the market needs? What’s underserved? What are the opportunities? Learn trends through peers, mentors, and research about the growth areas, industries, companies, and communities that interest you.

Week 4: Solution Discovery

What opportunities do you find interesting and energizing? What do you want to learn more about? Solution Discovery is about taking everything you’ve learned so far, synthesizing it into options and strategies to further validate. Refine your vision, create a roadmap, and design experiments to validate what’s next in the year ahead.

Week 5: Team Formation

Start designing and building your Personal Advisory Board - a group of peers, mentors, and connections from your network who agree to support and mentor you for what’s next. Learn how to tell your story to different audiences to support your vision. Get confident in sharing your vision and story with others.

Week 6: Prototyping and Validation

Get out of the building (and the cohort)! Conduct experiments to learn more. Validate your strategies, learning plans, networking objectives and more. Each person’s experiments are unique to their vision but known to the group.

Get out of the building (and the cohort)! Conduct experiments to learn more. Validate your strategies, learning plans, networking objectives and more. Each person’s experiments are unique to their vision but known to the group.

Week 7: Prototyping and Validation

Continue experimenting while designing new experiments if needed. Work with a pair, a team, with your Personal Advisory Board. Now is the time to push the boundaries, share key learnings and get support from peers and mentors along the way. The months ahead for yourself and the cohort will start to take shape at this stage.

Week 8: Ship It!

Share your personal vision and roadmap. Vest your peers, colleagues, and mentors as well as former and current Workit members. Share what you’ve learned, what new connections you’ve made, how you’ve grown, your appreciations and what will support you (i.e., the asks that you have for others). Celebrate our progress together and decide how to continue supporting each other in the weeks and months ahead.

Monthly: Grow Together

Our fellows work together for one year. After the 8 week accelerator, Workit fellows connect monthly for team check-ins. Fellows also have access to ongoing learning and connection opportunities via events, meetups, small groups, and 1:1 sessions to provide knowledge, inspiration, feedback, accountability, and support.

Fellowship Schedule

This fellowship will take about 2-4 hours per week. Fellows can choose to contribute more or less time pending on how many social events, curated 1:1 sessions, and deep-dives they attend.

FAQ

Who should apply?

We are building this cohort specifically for Product Managers and Senior Product Managers. Qualifications might include:

  • You have delivered multiple high quality products and understand the full lifecycle of product development.
  • You want to develop an intentional roadmap for your current product role and broader career aspirations.
  • You are excited by giving back and adding value - both to peers in the cohort and to the broader product community in Colorado.
  • You want a community of other high caliber product minds to help you refine your craft and share knowledge with.

Can I apply if I have zero product-based skills?

This cohort will be designed for current product managers who are ready to accelerate their careers. It is not intentioned for aspiring product managers. However, in parallel to designing this cohort we are working on what cohort will come next; if you'd like to stay up to date with new planned cohorts or give us any suggestions, sign up here!

What is the structure?

We are designing this cohort as an annual membership which kicks off with an 8-week intensive accelerator designed to jumpstart your integration into the Workit community.

What is the time commitment?

Workit fellows should plan to invest 2-4 hours per week during the 8-week accelerator period. Upon completion of the 8-week program, fellows should invest around 1-3 hours per month for the duration of the annual program. This fellowship is part-time and it's designed to accommodate busy work schedules.

I’m already connected to the product ecosystem in Colorado, why do I need this?

Our Product fellowship is designed to engineer serendipity between yourself and other ambitious and talented people in the Colorado tech ecosystem. Ultimately, we hope to be a force multiplier in helping you accelerate the speed at which you can level up your career and make your next move.

Although being already connected to the product ecosystem in Colorado is great, by joining Workit, we hope to help you make the greatest possible impact in your life and career.

How long will I have access to the Workit community?

Being a Workit member is forever!

What does it cost?

Access to our inaugural Product Management Leaders fellowship is $1,200. Future fellowships will priced at $2,400.
Once accepted, we will work with your team/company to expense our program costs as L&D.
